2015 Grampians Dry Red
A collaboration between two old friends and winemakers separated by oceans but united in their thoughts about wine.
In 2015, while making their separate wines together (it's always more fun when you have company), they chanced upon a collection of outstanding, unexpected parcels of fruit from one of the most magical sites in the Grampians.
It was the perfect opportunity to create a wine of the very highest quality, letting go of the strictures of variety (yes, this is a blend and no, we're not telling of what) in favour of achieving the extreme elegance of style for which the region is renowned.
To this end, they vinified each parcel with a light touch using traditional methods, then aged it all in old French barriques to bring forward the quality of the fruit. After two years, they blended the components carefully and guided it gently into bottle.
The whole process took place over the course of several years, bit by bit, each time they were able to meet. It's released to you now, carefully cellared and ready to drink, but with at least a decade of further development ahead.
This is wine I, the first in an occasional series, always released one at a time and sometimes not at all.
Wine I: 400 bottles, made, bottled and labelled by hand.
Price: $90
